The New York Knicks superstar was sportin' the throwback lid to the Met Gala in NYC last night ... with his wife Lala by his wide.
The gala is a big event in the fashion world -- it's overseen by Vogue honcho Anna Wintour and all sorts of fancy people are invited ... from Tom Brady and Gisele to the Beckhams ... even Victor Cruz.
Nobody rocked a top hat like Carmelo though ... who may now pass "go" and may also collect $200.
