Johnny Damon -- like so many Red Sox fans -- wishes Rafael Devers' Boston careerhad ended differently ... telling TMZ Sports this week the situation is "just horrible for everyone."
The former Sox outfielder sat down with us on Wednesday, some three days after Devers was jettisoned to San Francisco, and he made it clear, he would have preferred both sides work their differences out.
He said the trade is unfortunate for nearly every party, but noted Red Sox supporters are likely hurting the most.
Boston Red Sox exec Craig Breslow has been on the receiving end of a ton of backlash after trading away star player Rafael Devers ... to the point where his home address was published online -- and now cops are aware of the situation.
Newton Police tell TMZ Sports ...after Devers was dealt to San Francisco, the department was "notified by representatives from the Boston Red Sox Organization that some members of the Red Sox have been victims of doxing on social media due to a recent trade."
While cops were tipped off, NPD added it is not investigating any online threats.

Hendriks took to his Instagram page Thursday morning to explain the situation ... revealing that since he gave up three earned runs in just one-third of an inning in Boston's 5-1 loss to New York, people have been bombarding him and his family with hate.
He said in addition to the threats on his and Kristi Hendriks' lives, people have left "comments telling me to commit suicide" as well as ones wishing he "died from cancer."
The Cleveland Guardians are apologizing to Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran following a heated confrontation with a fan at the ballpark on Sunday ... after the spectator reportedly heckled him over his past suicide attempt.
The scene unfolded during the seventh inning of the matchup ... when Duran needed to be held back by umpires and other members of the Red Sox. According to Will Middlebrooks, the fan allegedly told Duran he "should have killed himself when he had the chance."

Shortly after the final out, Cleveland released a statement ... saying it identified the fan in question and was working with the league on potential next steps.

You can see in footage from the game's broadcast, as they were looking toward the sky to haul in the ball, they didn't see each other -- and they ended up running into one another.
Replays showed the guys' heads collided first ... sending both dudes flying to the turf in a world of pain.
O'Neill seemed to suffer the worst of it -- as he looked to be bleeding from a few parts of his forehead. Devers, though, stayed on the ground for a while too ... and appeared woozy when he got up.
Trainers raced out to tend to both players, and, eventually, they each made their way to the dugout under their own power.
O'Neill was not able to return to the contest ... though Devers did remain in the lineup.
So far, the Sox -- who are down 2-0 in the eighth inning -- have not provided an health update on the duo.

Of course, it wouldn't be unprecedented if Lee were to make it to the Big Leagues. MLB rosters are currently littered with sons of former stars -- including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr. and, most recently, Jackson Holliday.
If Lee does want to take the baseball route seriously ... he will have some great training from Dad, as Mo has been a helluva coach already for prospects through his Vaughn Sports Academy and Perfect Gameprogram.
But, again, Mo stressed he's going to be super patient with this whole process.
